The Reward of Giving

Charity (Sadaqah) is one of the most beloved acts of worship in Islam. It is a means of purification for the soul, an expression of gratitude to Allah, and a way to ease the suffering of those in need. Giving in the way of Allah benefits both the giver and the receiver it purifies wealth, increases blessings, and brings immense rewards in this life and the Hereafter.

Allah promises that those who give sincerely will never lose their wealth but will see it multiplied in ways beyond their imagination. Sadaqah serves as a shield from calamities, an expiation of sins, and a source of continuous reward even after death.

Allah says in the Quran:

“Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah and do not follow up their charity with reminders [of their generosity] or with hurtful words— for them, their reward is with their Lord, and they will have no fear, nor will they grieve.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:262)

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.”
(Sunan At-Tirmidhi 604, Sahih)

Quranic Guidance on Charity

The Quran repeatedly emphasizes the importance of giving for the sake of Allah, highlighting both the worldly and eternal benefits of charity.

Allah says:

“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain that sprouts seven ears; in every ear, there are a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is All-Encompassing and Knowing.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:261)

Hadiths on the Importance of Charity

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ frequently emphasized the power of charity and how it protects, purifies, and benefits believers.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.”
(Sunan At-Tirmidhi 589, Hasan)

“When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.”
(Sahih Muslim 1631)
